Hormone Replacement Therapy

Compounded Hormones for males and females
from Professional Arts Pharmacy

Hormone Therapy Treatments

Professional Arts Pharmacy can provide customized hormone replacement therapy (HRT) compounding services tailored to your specific needs. Professional Arts Pharmacy uses hormone sources that are considered or known as “bio-identical” or “BHRT” when compounding a hormone preparation.

Our compounding specialists work together with patients and prescribers to provide customized hormone replacement therapy that provides the needed hormones in the most appropriate strength and dosage form to meet each woman or man’s specific needs. Hormone replacement therapy should be initiated after medical and family history, symptoms, and lab values have been carefully reviewed. Every person is unique and can respond to therapy in their own way. Monitoring and medication adjustments are sometimes necessary.

We compound hormone replacement prescriptions for men and women every day! We can work with you through our consultative services or just fill your prescription from your doctor.

Professional Arts Pharmacy can create bio-identical hormone replacement therapy compounds in dosage forms tailored to an individual’s needs. We offer treatment flexibility and a variety of dosage forms including:

  • Topical creams/solutions/gels

  • Capsules, immediate release and slow release

  • Troches (lozenges)

  • Vaginal creams

(dosing for all dosage forms can be easily adjusted)

Symptom Onset and

The Hormone Decline

Women-Hormone-Imbalance-Symptoms-300x200

As women enter their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, their hormone levels begin to fluctuate and eventually decline, possibly causing symptoms, including:

  • Hot Flashes / Night Sweats

  • Loss of Libido

  • Trouble Sleeping

  • Mood Swings / Irritability

  • Irregular Periods

  • Weight Gain

  • Vaginal Dryness

Golfing

Men can and do experience similar hormone level decline, but it is often times more gradual, so symptoms are less noticeable over time. Typical onset for male hormone level decline is in their 40’s and 50’s, possibly causing symptoms, including:

  • Erectile dysfunction / Low libido / Shrunken testes

  • Muscle loss or weakness

  • Fatigue / Lack of energy

  • Memory loss / Loss of sharp thought

  • Mood Swings / Irritability

  • Night Sweats

  • Loss of Body Hair

  • Sleep apnea or insomnia

  • Depression or anxiety

Customized hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) may be the key to help relieve these symptoms and feel good again.  Many patients and physicians also turn to BHRT for protective benefits to the cardiovascular system, brain, central nervous system, bones, muscles, and much more. With a customized approach to hormone therapy, your hormone levels are precisely determined and the ideal replacement protocol is used to bring your hormones back to their proper balance.

Bio-Identical Hormones vs. Non-Bio-Identical Hormones

Hormones that are derived from natural plant material, such as the soybean or the wild yam, commonly called bio-identical hormones, include estriol (E3), estradiol (E2), estrone (E1), progesterone, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and pregnenolone.

Synthetic, artificial, and/or animal-derived hormones, which are most commonly used in commercially available HRT options, include hormones such as conjugated equine estrogens (CEE), medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA), and other synthetic progestins.

For many of us who do not have a background in biology, it is difficult to grasp this business of hormones and how they function. The key is to understand that hormones are messengers to the cells in the body and as such act as regulators for many bodily functions. Even though both natural and synthetic hormones are synthesized in a lab to reach their final form to make medications, the ones derived from natural plant material, or “bio-identical”, happen to be chemically and structurally identical to those produced in the human body. The synthetic ones are different in shape, potency and metabolism, which can do harm to the human body, and/or act differently in the body and produce different effects.

The bio-identical hormone debate: are bio-identical hormones (estradiol, estriol, and progesterone) safer or more efficacious than commonly used synthetic versions in hormone replacement therapy?
